Last month we wrapped up a very special project that happens to be located just around the corner from our office! Our lovely neighbors were in the process of completing an addition and kitchen renovation on the back of their historic bungalow in Hyde Park when they realized they didn't know where in the world to begin with furnishings. That's when we stepped in!

Our initial consultation provided us with a very solid direction. The client loves their existing sectional, a comfortable space where they can relax, and the show "Fixer Upper." This was a no brainer for us in terms of aesthetics... we knew we were going to infuse the space with textures, brighten it up, and most importantly give it a story that this family can build upon in the years to come.

When it was all said and done, we did a "reveal" just like on the show, and we were so touched by our client's reaction. Through tears, she explained that the space far exceeded her expectations and that she couldn't believe this was all her's!

AFTER!

The space posed a challenge with the location of the front door. It is placed right next to the sectional as you walk in, so we did not want to block the foot traffic with a traditional seating arrangement. Instead, we elongated the space by adding a smaller, round seating group near the fireplace. By placing an oversized rug underneath the entire living room, the space is grounded and feels like one. The two swivel chairs at the windows make it convenient for guests to chat or watch a game!

To create some conversational pieces in the space, we hit the salvage yard! One stop at Sarasota Architectural Salvage and we found the pair of incredible 100 year old Egyptian screens that are hanging above the sectional. Our client let us know that everyone who visits their home asks about the screens and it is their very favorite piece!

Our goal was to create a retreat for our client that was approachable. By introducing all of the natural textures and greenery, we helped breathe life into this space and turned our client's house into a home!

We are in the process of ordering for an amazing attorney in town that has such a cool personal style. He is modern, but still has sentimental ties to traditional pieces, such as his father's executive desk. So coming from a slew of attorneys myself, I knew that he needed to marry the two in order to create a space of his own.

Many people run into the dilemma of having one really traditional piece that they don't know what to do with. Rather than tossing it, embrace it! I love combining styles to create a balanced, collected space. And don't be afraid to showcase your personality, whether it is a Pearl Jam poster or my personal favorite, Fleetwood Mac!

friday finds

I am in complete disbelief that we are a day away from August! Where has the time gone? More like, where has summer gone? However, the one great thing I am looking forward to is football season. We are a month away and I am beside myself for my very favorite time of the year!

So soak up the summer sun and rain showers while you can, because before you know it we will be bundling up (might take a little longer for the cool air to reach in Florida....) infront of our TVs cheering on Auburn! Oh wait, not everyone is an Auburn fan?

This week I am working with a local woodworker to fabricate a pair of custom barn doors for an amazing home office transformation! These doors will add so much character to the space, as well as create a focal point on the owner's back wall. Plus, who doesn't love barn doors? 

The possibilities are endless! Whether your home leans towards the rustic side or modern, these babies add so much style to a space. So pump up the personality with some of these inspiring doors!
